Meet Sandy and James, the parents of Tyler (TyTy). They are pictured below at a recent Insight gratitude meeting. After struggling with addiction, they have found the key to happiness. They were supported with a scholarship from the Mustard Tree Foundation and Tyler has a happy life ahead of him.
Insight is truly a miracle for young people and makes such a difference. The Mustard Tree Foundation is very proud to support families for scholarships at Insight and it truly makes us proud of the young people and the program. The Insight Program is located in (Charlotte NC, Raleigh NC, Peachtree City, GA, Atlanta, GA, and Tampa FL) serving young people 13-26 in addiction and taking the time the young people need to recover.
My name is Sandy and I am very grateful for today! Tyty (our son Tyler) came into this program like a hurricane, we didn’t believe he would see another tomorrow. Our family was disconnected, had terrible communication skills, and our boundaries were a mess. They say with addiction it leads to jails, institutions and death. He was already knocking on those doors! He was struggling for a while when he realized he couldn’t be safe, even from himself, so he reached out to the Mustard Tree Foundation for help. They saved my family! Tyty was the 1st to be able to be sent to the Step 2 House that is affiliated with the Insight Program. We as parents had to learn to let go, have faith, set boundaries and have better communication skills. This led to parenting tools and parent support. Insight whole heatedly gave us this gift of tools and support.
Tyty continued to work on himself and learned to finally be happy with life! He always said when someone is struggling, the question should be what makes them so sad? He found his happiness, faith, and love for self again! This was thanks to Insight, an enthusiastic sobriety program in Roswell, Georgia that serves young people in addiction.
Moving forward to today, he was able to finish High School, continue his education in a trade school, which he is graduating from this year. He already has jobs lined up to interview and will be making a great income. Today my son is a little over 5 years sober, but time means nothing. I wake up and realize today is another day and today my son took another breath sober and he works his program and helps others become stronger within their own program. Sobriety is tough especially in the world today, but he stays strong and continues to get stronger!
This was not the journey I thought our family would love to embrace, but as painful as it was in the beginning, we are much stronger for it and are able to share our gratitude today.
Insight is normally a two-year commitment and it truly takes time, but I am grateful Insight allowed our family to stay longer. Tyty joined the group at age 16 and graduated the program over 4 years later. We are very grateful that Insight looks at each individual and knows time takes time, and each child is different. Recovery is different for everyone. Some can grasp it sooner than others, and some need more time. With the help and love of the Mustard Tree Foundation we were able to have that time.
Tyler is sober, loves life, is set up for a career, and we all have each other today!! A huge shout out and respect to the parents, counselors, Insight, and the Mustard Tree Foundation that helped us along the way; because of everyone that has touched our lives, we have TODAY!!
